Dual Immersion Facts
Immersive languages are proven to be successful through more than 40 years of research. Students involved in dual immersion programs tend to score higher on tests, develop cognitive flexibility, have a better attention span, and show increased skills with problem solving. Aside from these benefits, students who are part of dual immersion programs are better prepared for their adult experiences in a global environment.
The dual immersion program works with the English-speaking teacher instructing for half of the school day and the Spanish-speaking teacher instructing for the remainder of the day. While students can use English during the Spanish classes during the beginning of the school year, classes soon turn to completely immersive experiences with Spanish being the only language spoken.

Parent Teacher Association
Parents and guardians are encouraged to volunteer and become an active member of the Dixie Sun Parent Teacher Association. The association is managed by a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Events and programs that need volunteers throughout the school year include Book Fairs, Bike to School Day, Red Ribbon Week, Story Festival, Teacher Appreciation, and I-Mom. There are fundraising events held throughout the year to help support events and programs at Dixie Sun Elementary School.

Students in grades one through five begin class at 7:55 AM and classes are dismissed at 2:15 PM on Monday – Friday during regular school days. On early out days, classes begin at 7:55 AM and classes are dismissed at 12:15 PM.
Students in AM Kindergarten begin class at 7:55 AM and class is dismissed at 10:40 AM. Students in PM Kindergarten begin class at 11:35 AM and class is dismissed at 2:15 PM.
On early dismissal days, students in AM Kindergarten begin class at 7:55 AM and class is dismissed at 9:45 AM. Students in PM Kindergarten begin class at 9:45 AM and class is dismissed at 12:15 PM.
Tan’s Treats
Dixie Sun Elementary School participates in the Tan’s Treats outreach program. This organization provides healthy food for children to use on weekends and when school is on holiday. Meals are delivered to the school each Friday during the school year. When there are long weekends or holidays, parents are asked to help students transport the larger packages of food safely home. Tan’s Treats is a nonprofit organization that was founded in honor of Tanner, who once gave his lunch every day to a hungry child at his elementary school. Once his mother learned of the gift Tanner was giving his classmate, she provided him with two lunches for the remainder of the school year.
